Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 10, 2016

The American Insurance Association (AIA) will participate in The White House Conference on Resilient Building Codes today in Washington. The Conference is being hosted by The White House National Security Council Staff, the National Economic Council, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Council on Environmental Quality and the Office of Management and Budget. It will focus on the critical role building codes play in furthering community resilience.

The Conference will also consider actions that the Federal government and the private sector can take to advance resiliency. It is being held as part of National Building Safety Month, which President Barack Obama designated as May 2016. James Whittle, assistant general counsel and chief claims counsel, will be representing AIA.

A brief statement from Mr. Whittle follows:

“AIA is honored to be a participant in The White House Conference on Resilient Building Codes. We have long advocated for improved resiliency and stronger building codes, which improve outcomes after catastrophes. Research has shown that mitigation is essential preparation before a storm, saving not only property, but more importantly lives. Insurers look forward to working with the Administration and the private and public sectors in advancing mitigation efforts across the country.”
