Ambient Bamboo Floors Says It Will Easily Meet Tough New EPA Rule Protecting Consumers from Formaldehyde Fumes
The stringent new rule took effect Friday, June 1. Ambient Bamboo Floors reports that independent annual testing of its high-quality products last conducted two months ago indicated they can meet the EPA standard with flying colors—plus California’s indoor air standards, strictest in the world.
JESSUP, Md. (PRWEB) June 05, 2018
Bamboo flooring retailer Ambient Bamboo Floors today announced it expects to easily comply with a tough new rule from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to safeguard consumers against indoor emissions of formaldehyde gas.
The new EPA rule took effect this past Friday and implements an indoor air-quality standard nearly identical to those adopted beginning in 2009 by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The CARB Phase 1 and Phase 2 standards are generally believed to be the strictest of their kind in the world. Ambient Bamboo Floors noted that all of its popular bamboo flooring has met the CARB Phase 1 and Phase 2 formaldehyde emissions standards every year without fail since their introduction, based on tests conducted by an independent laboratory.
The new EPA rule requires flooring companies to certify that their products emit only safe levels of formaldehyde fumes.
The EPA developed its new standard in response to a 2010 amendment to the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 (TSCA). The amendment—known as Title VI—directed the EPA to come up with formaldehyde emissions limits based on the CARB standards.
Title VI stipulates that companies selling composite wood products in the U.S. have until early next year to obtain certification that their products meet the formaldehyde emissions standards set forth by either the EPA or CARB. Ambient Bamboo Floors indicated it is way ahead of that timetable, thanks to its long and stellar record of CARB standards compliance.
“Our bamboo flooring products undergo annual testing, consistently earning an off-gassing rating of ‘Below the Limit of Qualification,’ which means that our floors register at levels so low as to be almost non-detectable,” a company spokesman said.
“These determinations come from annual testing conducted by an independent ISO-17025-accredited laboratory—Benchmark International in Eugene, Oregon—which adheres to evaluation protocols developed jointly by trusted environmental health testing leaders SCS Global Services and the Resilient Floor Covering Institute,” the spokesman added.
The most recent tests from Benchmark International, conducted in April, show that Ambient Bamboo Floors’ bamboo and eucalyptus flooring products emit “effectively zero” urea formaldehyde fumes.
“In addition to showing us to be in compliance with CARB Phase 1 and Phase 2 standards, test results from Benchmark International have also repeatedly demonstrated that we satisfy standards promulgated by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the American Society for Testing and Materials, Japanese 5 Star, and Super E0,” Ambient Bamboo Floors’ spokesman said.
“We are enormously proud of this legacy of excellent air-quality test scores, not to mention our enthusiastic support for environmental protection measures such as Title VI and the plant-and-wildlife conserving Lacey Act. These emissions scores tell consumers that, if they have our engineered bamboo flooring installed in their homes and offices, they’ll be able to fully enjoy the beauty and performance of these truly outstanding products for a lifetime.”
