Benzer Pharmacy’s Pilot Diabetes Program Granted First Accreditation by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE)
Diabetes Education Accreditation Program (DEAP) Certification Underscores Benzer Pharmacy as an Authority in the Education and Treatment of Diabetes
TAMPA, Fla. (PRWEB) April 20, 2018
Benzer Pharmacy announced today that its store in New Port Richey has joined the ranks of DEAP-certified providers of diabetes education and treatment. Benzer has introduced a diabetes program that stands in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements set forth by the AADE—one of only two accrediting agencies of diabetes education programs in the U.S.
The certification was formalized, made effective last month and remains in place for a period of four years, starting from its March 23, 2018. The accreditation requires planned annual status and performance measurement reports, due at the end of its first- and second-year anniversaries.
According to Lindsay Wall, Specialty Director of Benzer Pharmacy, this foundational endorsement sets the stage for an aggressive, organization-wide movement to stem the rising tide of misinformation about the disease, while providing customers with a reliable resource for practical advice and treatment options.
"Benzer is committed to providing high-quality education to our patients and that is why we decided to pursue this accreditation," Wall said. “We see it as doing our part to support diabetic self-management education and training (DSME/T) initiatives across the country.”
Terms of the certification call for the Benzer Pharmacy Diabetes Education Program to be listed on the AADE’s website among other accredited programs.
In a sense, as Alpesh Patel, President of Benzer Pharmacy, tells it—as this new distinction brings Benzer into compliance with national standards, it also brings the company into partnership with others dedicated to fighting diabetes on common ground.
“Diabetes education is crucial to the world today. Fewer than 60% of people with diabetes have had any formal education on the disease,” Patel said. “We at Benzer Pharmacy want to combat diabetes at the clinical level.”
That goal appears within reach as Benzer continues to pursue plans to roll out the program in waves over the course of the coming years.
Patel concludes, “The cumulative effect of our efforts is what will truly turn the tide.”
