The American Association for Physician Leadership® has released its newest publication: How Physicians Can Fix Health Care: One innovation at a time, by New York Times best-selling author Chris Trimble.
The book examines how today’s physicians can foster a culture of innovation in health care by building positive change and nurturing multi-disciplinary teams.
“While researching and shadowing physicians for this book, I came to understand how physicians can innovate and change the way health care is delivered and improve value,” Trimble said. “Doing so will require the mobilization of tens of thousands of physician innovators, and this book serves as a call to action for those men and women in health care to help show them how it can be done at every level.”
Trimble presents the case that physician and non-physician leaders can work to fix health care by building small teams that share ideas and spread best practices. He cites real-life examples of how small innovations are improving health care across the country and explains how all physicians can achieve similar success. At some level within society, all physicians are considered leaders.
“Chris applied his thorough research to create a book that opens the door to how physicians, as leaders, are innovating in their workplaces every day,” said Peter Angood, MD, FACS, FRCS(C), MCCM, president and CEO of the American Association for Physician Leadership®. “I feel confident that any physician reading this book will find something in its pages they can relate to and then take back to their practice, organization or community in order to effect positive change by improving how they lead and solve challenges.”
The book is available for purchase on the association’s website at http://www.physicianleaders.org/fix.
