The prestigious CCM® exam will incorporate the knowledge domains needed to support the competent and effective performance of case managers based on the results of the Commission’s 2014 Role & Function Survey.

Mount Laurel, N J (PRWEB) October 29, 2015

Every five years, the Commission for Case Manager Certification® (the Commission) administers a research study to gather data related to the field of case management. The study results clarify the knowledge, skills and activities required in today’s case management practice. The robust, statistically significant findings inform the Certified Case Manager® (CCM) credential exam.

The purpose of a Role and Function Study (also known as a job task analysis) is to identify the essential activities performed by case managers in various practice settings and across diverse professional disciplines. The study also identifies the knowledge required to support the competent performance of this work.

“Demonstrating the knowledge component through a demanding exam has been part of the CCM credential since the Commission’s inception,” says Patrice Sminkey, the Commission’s CEO. “As we’ve matured as a certification body, the Commission consistently rises to the top as the most recognized and respected credential for case managers. That’s why we devote so much effort to research and to ensure the exam reflects current practice— the latest knowledge needed for and functions performed by case managers in the field.”

The primary outcome of the Role and Function Study is the identification of the essential activities and knowledge required by case management professionals. These were used to develop the content to revise the blueprint - examination specifications for the CCM exam.

Beginning with the exam administration in August 2016, the revised Essential Activities Domains will be incorporated into the test specification as follows:

1.    Delivering Case Management Services
2.    Managing Utilization of Healthcare Services
3.    Accessing Financial and Community Resources
4.    Evaluating and Measuring Quality and Outcomes
5.    Delivering Rehabilitation Services
6.    Adhering to Ethical, Legal and Practice Standards

Specifics regarding the new exam blueprint, including the weights of the domains, will be available in the CCM Certification Guide by March 1, 2016. Applications for the August 2016 CCM certification exam will be accepted March 1, 2016 through May 31, 2016.
