Recently elected to chair SAE’s Avionics Systems Division, ETA’s Secretary Bill Woodward will play an active role influencing the direction of industry through standardization. Woodward embraces his passion for the electronics, fiber optics and aerospace industries by volunteering as a subject matter expert, holding elected positions with both organizations.

Greencastle, IN (PRWEB) May 10, 2016

ETA International Board Secretary Bill Woodward, FOD, was recently elected Chairman of SAE International's Avionics Systems Division (ASD). He will coordinate the committees responsible for the standardization activities of the aerospace industry in the areas of Avionics Systems, Systems Integration, Embedded Computing, Fiber Optics, and Unmanned Systems.

The committees under Woodward’s guidance in ASD include:
· AS-1 Avionics Systems and Systems Integration
· AS-2 Embedded Computing Systems
· AS-3 Fiber Optics and Applied Photonics
· AS-4 Unmanned Systems

In addition to being a published author and public speaker at industry events, Woodward has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the ETA International Presidents Award and the SAE Technical Contribution Award. Woodward has volunteered as a subject matter expert and by serving his trade association as former ETA Chairman and multiple other positions on the ETA Board.

His career spans a decade of service in the U.S. Navy as a Submarine Fire Control Technician and nearly two decades experience providing electrical and electronic engineering systems, test equipment and fiber optics expertise to the private and military sectors. As Principal Engineer, he conceptualizes, designs, and develops technology for shipboard systems, land-based radar systems, and commercial applications.

Because the aerospace industry has always required the highest standards of workmanship to be maintained, Woodward and ETA International worked with SAE International's Fiber Optics and Applied Photonics Committee to develop the SAE Fabricator (SFF) certification based on SAE International’s Aerospace Standard ARP5602. Specifically for individuals involved in the manufacturing, installation, support, integration and testing of fiber optics systems, the SFF certification is universally recognized for competency, ability and knowledge and is intended for managers, engineers, technicians, trainers/instructors, third party maintenance organizations, quality assurance and personal production.

To earn this honorable credential, practicing fabricators must demonstrate the necessary skills and knowledge verifying their proficiency in Aerospace Fiber Optics Fabrication procedures and technology as defined in the SAE International Aerospace ARP5602/3 and ARP5602/4 competencies.

For over 100 years, SAE International has provided a neutral forum for the collaboration on common engineering challenges and the development of standards. SAE standards are internationally recognized for their role in helping ensure the safety, quality and effectiveness of products and services across the mobility engineering industry. As the standards-setting industry leader, SAE has published more than 6,400 technical documents for the aerospace industry.

SAE invites mobility engineering professionals who possess technical expertise to volunteer on an SAE standards development committee. Participation can benefit one personally through networking and professional skill development. It can also benefit one’s organization or company indirectly with a representative playing an active role influencing the direction of industry through standardization. Submit a committee participation request at https://www.sae.org/standardsdev/participationReq/.

About ETA - Since 1978, ETA has delivered over 200,000 professional certifications. ETA certifications are widely recognized and frequently used in worker job selection, hiring processes, pay increases, advancements, and often required as companies bid on contracts. ETA’s certifications are personal and travel with the individual, regardless of employment or status change and measure competencies of persons, not products or vendors. All ETA certifications are accredited through the International Certification Accreditation Council (ICAC) and align with the ISO-17024 standard. http://www.eta-i.org.

About SAE – SAE International is a global association of more than 128,000 engineers and related technical experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial-vehicle industries which supports the core competencies of life-long learning and voluntary consensus standards development.
