Eva’s Village will host a gala dinner, “Visions of Hope: The Path to Success” with silent and live auctions on November 5, 2015, at The Grove in Cedar Grove, NJ. The annual benefit provides critical funding for the nineteen, comprehensive, anti-poverty programs offered by Eva’s Village, which has been serving people in need in New Jersey for 33 years. This year’s event will showcase the launch of Eva’s Cookies & Brownies, an e-commerce enterprise designed to provide job opportunities for graduates of The Culinary School at Eva's Village and the community, and to generate funding to support the mission of Eva’s Village.
Made possible by a generous grant of $500,000 from Newman’s Own Foundation in March 2015, this enterprise was conceived by Tom Indoe, retired president and COO of Newman’s Own and a Culinary School Advisory Board member, who continues to guide the venture. “After joining the board I realized there was a unique opportunity to build a source of job opportunities and funding to help Eva’s Village continue its mission to help people in need,” he noted. Eva’s Village will honor Mr. Indoe and Newman’s Own Foundation at Eva’s Village Annual Benefit Gala on Nov. 5 with the “Where Hope Begins” award. Eva’s Cookies & Brownies has drawn on the expertise of The Culinary School and worked with their staff to develop recipes for the gourmet, all-natural treats; they have also hired several recent graduates of the school as their first employees. Launched in September, Eva’s Cookies & Brownies is now accepting orders for the holidays; large orders for corporate gifts are customizable.
This year’s Gala will celebrate the triumphs of alumni who have overcome their challenges and found paths to successful and fulfilling lives. The keynote speakers are among the first employees hired at Eva’s Cookies and Brownies. Tabitha and Denise, recent graduates from The Culinary School, will share their stories. “This is a dream come true. Eva’s gave me my life back, and now I get to work here. It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me,” Tabitha explained.
Eva’s Village will also recognize other family and business supporters, presenting the Community Service Award to the Lauretta Family and Sal Lauretta for Men, who partnered with Eva’s Village for the past six years to run the “Behind the Seams” benefit, and the Msgr. Vincent E. Puma Memorial Award to the Renzulli family, who have participated in the Eva’s Village community as volunteers for 13 years.
Rapid Pump & Meter Service Co., Inc. and Machinery Services Corp., Paterson businesses owned by Richard Taylor, are the event sponsors of the 2015 Annual Benefit Gala for Eva’s Village. Members of the Taylor family are long-time supporters and volunteers at Eva’s Village. Richard is Gala Chair and a member of Eva’s Village Board of Directors. “It is an honor for us to help build Msgr. Puma’s vision providing for those in need,” he states. Other Gala sponsors include Railroad Construction Company, “Path to Success” Presentation sponsor and County Concrete Corporation, Cocktail Reception sponsor.
Founded by Msgr. Vincent E. Puma in 1982 as a response to hunger, addiction and homelessness in Paterson, NJ, Eva’s Village is a non-profit comprehensive social service organization. Through almost three decades of service, Eva’s Village has established a unique record in facing community challenges and changing the lives of the hungry, homeless and addicted. It has grown from a simple soup kitchen to become the most respected anti-poverty program in New Jersey. It now includes nineteen integrated programs housed in numerous buildings, spanning several city blocks in downtown Paterson.
