Expansion in Africa, Asia Prompts Global Health Education Leader to Appoint New Assistant Director

UN-Recognized Nonprofit CFHI Welcomes Former Fulbright Fellow Robin Young as Assistant Director, Africa and Asia

San Francisco-based Child Family Health International (CFHI), a nonprofit global health education organization, is pleased to welcome Robin Young, MBA, as Assistant Director, Africa and Asia, to support CFHI?s rapidly expanding programs in those regions. Robin will provide program management and support for CFHI?s programs, ensuring program safety and quality, best practices in international education, and strong institutional and global partnerships.

Robin joins CFHI from Hesperian Health Guides (publisher of the global public health classic, Where There Is No Doctor), where she helped to expand local and global outreach and partnerships. Her background includes extensive work in international education, global health, and asset-based development. She is a former Fulbright Fellow (2007) and is co-author of the Cultural Detective Dominican Republic series, reflecting her deep interest in intercultural communication.

In recent years, CFHI has launched new programs in Uganda, Ghana, and the Philippines, and is in the process of launching its latest program in Arusha, Tanzania. All CFHI programs offer participants the opportunity to engage deeply with local public health challenges and to observe and experience the work that clinics, hospitals, community health centers, and nongovernmental organizations are doing to address those challenges.

Since its inception over 20 years ago, CFHI has offered students and institutions with ethical, safe, mindful, and impactful opportunities for global health education and engagement. In Special Consultative Status with the United Nations, the organization is recognized as a leader in community-based Global Health Education Programs, embedding participants in existing health systems and elevating local medical and public health professionals as the global health experts they are.
