Boling Vision Center to perform first ever KAMRA™ inlay surgery in our state

Elkhart, IN (PRWEB) October 25, 2015

On Friday, October 2, Boling Vision Center became the first eye care practice in Indiana to perform an advanced surgical procedure to reduce the need for reading glasses in adults over age 40. Dr. Richard C. Boling, II performed KAMRA™ inlay surgery on six patients at the practice’s Elkhart, Indiana, location. The surgeries began at 8:00am.

It is estimated that nearly 114 million people in the United States are struggling with a frustratingly natural eye condition: presbyopia. Presbyopia reduces the ability of the eye to focus on near objects, causing blurry reading vision for text messages, prescription labels, restaurant menus and more. The KAMRA inlay has helped thousands restore their near vision and reduce the constant hassles of reading glasses.

“Many of our adult patients don’t want the ‘growing older’ stigma of wearing readers when out in public – not to mention having to strategically place reading glasses throughout their homes, work and even their cars,” said Dr. Boling. “There are other treatment options such as monovision, but this treatment doesn’t always help patients achieve the vision they were hoping for. The KAMRA inlay has been proven to be an excellent alternative to reading glasses; in fact, it’s the #1 prescribed corneal inlay in the world. I feel privileged to be able to offer this amazing solution to our community.”

The KAMRA inlay sits in the first few layers of the eye known as the cornea. Smaller and thinner than a contact lens, the inlay is a mini-ring with an opening in the center. By using this pinhole effect, the inlay focuses light coming into your eye. This restores near vision while maintaining distance vision without blurry zones.

Not every patient is a good candidate for the KAMRA inlay. Dr. Boling offers free KAMRA Consultations to assess patients’ vision and unique eye characteristics to determine if this is a viable option for them.

About Presbyopia
Presbyopia is a naturally-occurring eye condition that happens when the crystalline lens of the eye loses its flexibility, making it difficult to focus on close objects. This condition is not a refractive error like nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Presbyopia is not a disease and it cannot be prevented. Presbyopia may seem to occur suddenly, but the actual loss of flexibility takes place over a number of years, usually becoming noticeable in the early to mid-40s.
