Online program ideal for working professionals who wish to earn a graduate certificate in two consecutive semesters.
Fresno, California (PRWEB) May 13, 2016
California State University, Fresno will launch an online, graduate-level Certificate of Advanced Study in Community and Regional Planning in August, 2016 through its Division of Continuing and Global Education.
The 15-unit online program provides key theoretical, professional, technical, and ethical foundation classes in the planning field. It is designed for those entering the land-use planning field as well as professionals in related industries such as real estate, public administration, civil engineering, public health, architecture, local government, and non-profit community service providers.
Community and regional planning is a dynamic profession that works to improve the welfare of people and their communities by creating more convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient, and attractive places for present and future generations (American Planning Association). Planning is a technical and political process that is concerned with land use control, transportation planning, urban and landscape design, community and economic development, and protection and enhancement of the natural environment.
According to a 2016 report by the Center for Business and Policy Research at the University of the Pacific, California’s state and local government employment is growing, and should add about 30,000 jobs statewide in each of the next several years. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook notes that two out of three urban and regional planners work in local government, highlighting the need for those with skills in community and regional planning.
Fresno State’s online program consists of five consecutive courses beginning in the fall semester of 2016 and concluding in the spring of 2017. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited institution of higher education.
