Auction Featuring One-of-A-Kind Artwork by Donna Karan, Keith Richards, and Mariano Rivera Will Benefit Hundreds of Children in Hospitals
NEW YORK (PRWEB) April 27, 2018
Healing Headbands Project, Inc., a New York non-profit organization that combines the healing power of laughter and art to create and heal through its custom Laugh Create Heal® workshops, will be holding its first ‘ArtHeals’ fundraiser on May 9, 2018 at 6:30pm at the Tilles Center at Long Island University. Funds raised will be used to expand the program into more children’s hospitals, community organizations and schools throughout the country.
“We’re so passionate about helping people feel better through our laughter and arts program. Every dollar that’s raised at our ArtHeals Fundraiser will go toward the expansion of the Laugh Create Heal® workshops,” says Barbara Grapstein, Healing Headbands Project founder. Joanie Accolla, Barbara’s co-founder adds, “We expect an incredible evening of performances that highlight the arts and laughter. We’re bringing together a variety of art forms including fashion, culinary, live interactive art and dance performances, plus an auction of never before seen art. There’s truly something for everyone!”
The ArtHeals Fun(d)raiser is designed to be an immersive experience that encourages attendees to laugh and create their own art to personally experience the joy of the Healing Headbands Project. The live auction is one of the evening’s highlights, and will showcase one-of-a kind artwork by prestigious artisans in their respective fields of music, dance, comedy, literature and the culinary arts. To add to the excitement, the auction will feature art created in a Laugh Create Heal® workshop by Donna Karan, Keith Richards, Mariano Rivera and Madan Kataria - all luminaries in their respective fields of fashion, entertainment, sports and laughter yoga. Each of these public figures shares a deep commitment to the mission of the Healing Headbands Project and the incredible work that’s being done to help those in need of healing.
Jacqueline Towers-Perkins, Bonhams Specialist and Sotheby's Institute alumni, states, “I’m honored to be a part of such an incredible organization that’s doing wonderful things to help children and those recovering from illness. I’m happy to contribute my auction expertise to elevate and bring attention to Healing Headbands Project and the wonderful artists who have contributed one-of a kind collector’s pieces.”
Since its founding in 2015, the mission of Healing Headbands Project has been to bring immense joy to hundreds of children and adults through their Laugh Create Heal® workshops, which has led to incredible support at children’s hospitals across the US including Cohen’s Children’s Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Mount Sinai, Holtz Children’s Hospital in Miami, Palm Beach Children’s Hospital, Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, and Children’s Hospital Orange County, St. Jude’s Target House; local community organizations such as Key Club International and worldwide organizations like Girl Scouts of America.
Current premier sponsors include Design Works International, Sentinel Printing, Design2Print, Andrew Sabin Family Foundation, and Wheatley Plaza - a donor from the inception of Healing Headbands Project. “We are thrilled to offer our support and participate in this evening of celebration, expression and fun to benefit this worthy cause that helps those in need of healing,” said Wheatley Plaza spokesperson Deirdre Costa Major.

About Healing Headbands Project
Healing Headbands Project, Inc. is a non-profit organization based in New York with a purpose to inspire and integrate laughter with the arts to develop a healthy mindset. The Laugh Create Heal® workshops are the core of the organization and where the art for each headband is created. The Healing Headbands team transforms the artwork by printing it in full color on deliciously soft UV protected fabric and creating the headbands. The team then mails the completed headband, with love, back to each artist. As certified laughter leaders, co-founders Barbara Grapstein and Joanie Accolla recognized the powerful healing combination of laughter and art, which inspired them to offer a fun experience for children in hospitals across the US. The Healing Headbands Project relies on laughter and art as a conduit to activate and promote healing, as countless studies and articles provide evidence that humor and a positive spirit contribute to health, healing and recovery time. The organization’s tagline, “Wear your Happiness” reflects the mission and serves as a reminder that healing is possible through laughter and art.
