Huntsville/Madison County CVB to Host TweetChat with @NASA_Marshall 10/1 from 1 ? 2 p.m.

Experts to be available to discuss #JourneyToMars efforts in Huntsville, Alabama, and how visitors can get in on the action

The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), the organization responsible for promoting Huntsville/Madison County to attract leisure travelers and convention groups will be hosting a TweetChat with NASA?s Marshall Space Flight Center on Thursday, October 1, starting at 1:00 p.m. CST and lasting until 2 p.m. to talk about Huntsville and Marshall Space Flight Center?s role in the real-life #JourneyToMars, and how visitors and non-Rocket Scientists alike can get involved.

TweetChat participants will hear directly from NASA experts about how the science in the best-selling book and upcoming movie release of ?The Martian? stacks up in real-life and how close we actually are to a manned mission to Mars. The CVB?s @Go2HuntsvilleAL Twitter account will be on hand to talk about how visitors and locals alike can get in on the action for the real life #JourneyToMars via various activities and offerings in the Rocket City.

President/CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County CVB Judy Ryals said. ?From the Earth?s largest space museum ? the U.S. Space & Rocket Center home to Space Camp, to the NASA bus tours of Marshall Space Flight Center, the Von Braun Astronomical Society?s stargazing opportunities, Sci-Quest?s STEM offerings and more, Huntsville is in a unique position to offer fellow science and exploration buffs an incredible, one-of-a-kind experience.?

Participants will be able to ask questions and have conversations with Andrew Keys, Center Chief Technologist at NASA?s Marshall Space Flight Center, Kathryn Crowe, Engine Systems Engineer at NASA?s Marshall Space Flight Center and Dr. Morgan Abney, Technical Lead for NASA?s Life Support System Oxygen Recovery Technology Development via the @NASA_Marshall Twitter account.

In addition to Thursday?s TweetChat, the CVB is celebrating the premiere of ?The Martian? by offering visitors free space-themed candy in the Visitor Center through October 9, during normal Visitor Center operating hours (Mon-Sat 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.). Visitors will also have the opportunity to take a Martian landscape selfie (courtesy of a real photo from NASA?s Curiosity rover) via the Visitor Center?s green screen backdrop called #RocketCitySelfie.
