Texas A&M University's Construction Science Department offered their Francis Hall building to host The ConTech Roadshow on March 8th. The event series features traveling one-day tradeshows packed with demonstrations, vendors, educational presentations, and networking opportunities for the construction industry. Presented by College Station-based company JBKnowledge, the 2018 ConTech Roadshow made its first stop at Texas A&M to offer a special event tailored to students.
Students were treated to a day of interactive demonstrations of the top technology transforming the AEC industry, and the opportunity to learn from and network with some of the top names in the industry. Among the companies present were leading tech vendors such as Project Atlas, STACK Estimating Technologies, SmartBid, Milwaukee Tools, Faro Technologies, Procore, DroneDeploy, Assemble, and Pix4D.
“This event maintained our position at the nexus of building industry education and technology,” said Patrick Suermann, head of the country's largest construction science department at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. “More than ever, construction’s newest workers are expected to be tech proficient,” explained Dr. Suermann.
At the event, students gained valuable insights for their upcoming careers from leading construction technologists. The ConTechCrew Podcast hosts led discussions on career development and adopting technology such as BIM, AI, and drones. Other special guest presenters included Kelsey Stein of SKANSKA USA, Todd Wynne of Rogers-O'Brien Construction, David Epps from Winter Construction, Darren Roos of Bernards, and more who discussed topics from Drones on Every Jobsite and Techniques for Technology Adoption, to Leveraging Technology for Innovation in Construction, and Driving Innovation at Complacent Companies.
