Kelle Wood Rich and Central Texas Autism Center Announce Summer Institute for Teachers

The Central Texas Autism Center is pleased to announce two separate week-long intensive training programs for teachers of students with autism or other developmental disabilities. The sessions will cater to professionals working with early childhood, elementary-, or middle school-aged children and will explore the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with a strong emphasis on the Verbal Behavior (VB) approach.

The sessions will cater to professionals working with early childhood, elementary-, or middle school-aged children and will explore the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with a strong emphasis on the Verbal Behavior (VB) approach. Instructor Morgan Chapple, BCBA, has over 15 years of experience assessing children with autism and conducts training sessions for professionals throughout Texas in her role as CTAC's Clinical Director. Attendees will benefit from her deep theoretical knowledge of ABA and years of practical experience.

The workshop will cover a variety of topics including how to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), how to write effective Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and how to use criterion-referenced assessment tools such as the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), to accurately assess Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals. The classes will also explore teaching procedures from the science of ABA to establish instructional control, increase acquisition rates, and improve skills. Participants will learn to teach language skills to the following developmental levels: early (0-18 months), intermediate (18-30 months), and advanced (30-48 months) or higher. Also included is a three-day advanced class that will consist of lectures, presentations, videos, and opportunities to observe children in ABA therapy sessions. The workshop will also help school districts fulfill standards set forth in NCLB and the Texas Autism supplement.
