Open House celebration to offer first-hand look at major renovations, meet and greet with new owner

Ken O’Brien, former owner of the largest school band and orchestra music retail chain in the U.S. (headquartered in Frederick) is now owner of another Maryland property, The Links at Challadon, a public golf course in Mt. Airy. The challenging course was built by renowned golf course designer Brian T. Ault who has completed projects for the PGA Tour and dozens of golf courses across the country. O’Brien will host an open house celebration event to commemorate the course’s 20th anniversary and showcase major renovations taking place. The event will be free for the public to attend.

WHAT: An Open House celebration event will take place to commemorate The Links at Challedon’s 20th anniversary as well as to showcase brand new renovations taking place. The event will include putting contests, demos sponsored by Titleist, raffles, live music, and free food.

WHEN: Sunday, May 22, 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

WHY: Since purchasing the course, O’Brien has committed to updating nearly every aspect of The Links at Challedon’s operations and physical assets, some for the first time since the course opened in 1996.

Course improvements and additions include:

  • Renovated driving range with a state-of-the-art hitting surface
  • Course bridges to cross wetlands
  • Reconstructed sand bunkers
  • New golf carts
  • Refurbished maintenance equipment
  • Golf shop and dining room re-design
  • Expanded restaurant menu
  • Private event structure with heating and air conditioning
