#MarchToEquality Launches as Call to Action to Support the United Nation's Free & Equal Campaign
Global Campaign Encourages Participants to Track Their Steps in Support of Global Equality for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 24, 2015
#MarchToEquality, a campaign for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality has launched in collaboration with the United Nation?s global Free & Equal campaign.
#MarchToEquality is a call for world leaders currently gathered at the United Nations for the 70th General Assembly to use their interactions to press for an end to anti-LGBT discrimination and violence.
The campaign invites anyone anywhere in the world to participate by tracking their steps via everyday activities ? walking to work, exercising, running errands, volunteering or taking their children to school.
Participants can take a photo or video of their participation and post to social media: https://instagram.com/marchtoequality/, https://www.facebook.com/MarchToEquality, https://mobile.twitter.com/MarchToEquality, view our content on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCysMEuo601rhNvqThGilv9w, or login to their personal account at http://www.stonewall2019.org and encourage their families, friends and colleagues across the globe to do the same. Users can also upload a mobile app experience via a run app or step counter app. Every step someone takes in support of the March elevates their voice in support of the global LGBT community.
Charles Radcliffe from the UN Human Rights Office said, "We're delighted to be working with the organizers of the #MarchToEquality to raise awareness of the scale and gravity of human rights violations suffered by LGBT and intersex people globally, which is a key objective of the UN Free & Equal campaign. There's a growing global movement of people who recognize the need for change and who support LGBT equality. This is a chance for people to show their support and their solidarity, and to remind world leaders coming to the UN later this month of their duty to fight prejudice and protect the rights of all LGBT people included."
In at least 76 countries, discriminatory laws criminalize private, consensual same-sex relationships, exposing millions of individuals to the risk of arrest, prosecution and imprisonment ? and even, in at least five countries, the death penalty. In addition to violating basic rights, criminalization legitimizes prejudice in society at large and exposes people to hate crimes, police abuse, torture and family violence.
Global Ambassadors for the #MarchToEquality are Tilda Swinton, Celina Jaitly, Conchita Wurst, Billy Bean, Michelle Clunie, Billy Porter and David Mixner.
#MarchToEquality is the kick-off campaign for Stonewall2019.org, a new platform that will serve as a hub for the LGBT community leading into Stonewall?s 50th anniversary on June 28, 2019.
#MarchToEquality is produced by SLA International, and executive produced by Pride Live Nation. Visit the website for further information: http://www.stonewall2019.org
