Mesothelioma Research Organization Recognizing Awareness Day with Appearance on Today Show

On September 26, Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation?s volunteers appeared on Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, at the broadcast of the Today Show.

On Saturday, September 26, the volunteers of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation were featured in the Today show. All were wearing blue shirts and waved ?Cure Meso? signs in an effort to raise national awareness of this deadly cancer.

The Today show?s Dylan Dreyer took some time to speak with the group on-air as can be seen in the footage. The TV appearance spurred unprecedented activity on social media, making the 2015 Mesothelioma Awareness Day, the most successful to date.

For 12 years, since 2004, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) and its supporters have recognized September 26th as Mesothelioma Awareness Day. On this day, and in the weeks leading up to it, the Meso Foundation provides interested allies with several ways of becoming involved and helping the cause.

If they couldn?t attend the awareness events in New York, the Meso Foundation?s supporters were invited to wear blue and share images of themselves on social media. Also on September 26th, the Meso Foundation hosted a conference at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, aimed at patients, caregivers, medical professionals, and other advocates, covering major aspects of mesothelioma treatment and research with plentiful time for Q&A from the audience.

Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor of the lining of the lung, abdomen, or heart known to be caused by exposure to asbestos. Medical experts consider it one of the most aggressive and deadly of all cancers. An estimated one-third of those who develop mesothelioma were exposed while serving in the Navy or working in shipyards.
