The New Jersey State Bar Association and the New Jersey Division of Workers’ Compensation, in cooperation with the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, presents their annual Workers’ Compensation Bench-Bar Conference. This year’s conference takes place at The Westin Princeton at Forrestal Village on December 12, from 9 am until 4 pm. The conference is an opportunity for professionals in the legal industry to meet and greet New Jersey workers’ compensation judges and network with hundreds of New Jersey workers’ compensation attorneys.

Scheduled to speak at this year’s conference is Dennis Baptista, a Certified Workers’ compensation Law Attorney with more than 25 years of experience. He has litigated several complicated workers’ compensation cases, including claims involving accidental injuries, occupational diseases, and repetitive motion injuries, as well as permanent disability and work related death cases.

Dennis will share information about Section 40 Liens and how they affect workers’ compensation cases. This presentation will present a review of the statutory language of NJSA 34:15-40 and discuss the interaction between workers' compensation and third party liability claims. Dennis will also present practical tips about calculating, negotiating and compromising Section 40 liens.

The Workers’ Compensation Bench-Bar Conference offers an opportunity to learn about various issues affecting workers’ compensation law. In addition to Section 40 Liens, topics will also include the SMART Act, Ethical Issues in Workers’ Compensation from a Judicial Perspective, and the Ins and Outs of Calculating the Effect of a Third Party Recovery on a Workers’ Compensation Award.

Presentations at the conference are approved for continuing education credits. Attendees are encouraged to apply for scholarships that might off-set the cost of attendance.
