Hearon’s efforts with New Milestones will help raise awareness and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness

AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) April 18, 2018

New Milestones Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises funds to support adults and children in Travis County living with mental illness, substance use disorder and intellectual and developmental disabilities, today announced the appointment of Mary Gatlin Hearon as director.

Hearon joins New Milestones with more than 25 years of experience in non-profit management, fundraising, program development and collaborative community partnerships. She has served as an executive director for four non-profit organizations and was vice president of Mental Health America of Dallas and director of development at Mental Health America of Texas.

Hearon’s efforts with New Milestones will help raise awareness and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness, substance use disorder and intellectual disabilities. Hearon will also help New Milestones raise funds to support the programs and services of Integral Care, which provides critical tools that build health and wellbeing for adults, children and families. Services include a 24-hour helpline for anyone who needs immediate emotional support, ongoing counseling to improve mental health, drug and alcohol treatment to help with recovery and housing to regain health and independence.

"The New Milestones Foundation is excited to have Mary onboard as she puts her many years of experience and energy to work," said Scott Hector, president of the New Milestones board of directors. “Our organization has played a key role in helping thousands of Central Texans receive support and care for their mental health needs. Under Mary's leadership, we can further extend our support to the community by helping fund the efforts of Integral Care.”

“When access to quality mental health care is available, everyone’s health and wellbeing benefits,” said Hearon. “Increasing our investment in behavioral health care and services for intellectual and developmental disabilities helps ensure our community has the tools to thrive—both now and in the future. Financial support of the New Milestones Foundation and Integral Care helps create transformative change in people’s lives.”
