NEW YORK (PRWEB) April 23, 2018
Gary Laermer has been appointed Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations at Pace University effective April 30, 2018.
As Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, Laermer will lead all fundraising efforts to support student and faculty success. He will also be responsible for leading the development of strategic alumni engagement opportunities, ensuring that Pace’s community of over 140,000 alumni have a meaningful and rewarding experience with their alma mater. Laermer join Pace at an exciting time in its history, as volunteer leadership has grown across its schools, alumni have become more engaged, and fundraising has grown year over year. Pace recently redeveloped its Pleasantville campus and is currently reimaging its lower Manhattan campus through its New York City Master Plan. This ambitious initiative creates a revitalized living and learning community for Pace students. Beyond capital improvements, Pace’s strategic fundraising priorities are focused on initiatives that boost student access and success, including increased scholarship support and experiential learning opportunities that take full advantage of the University’s location in the world’s leading city for arts, entertainment, and business.
“Not only is Gary a talented fundraising professional, he also exemplifies everything we do at Pace,” said Pace President Marvin Krislov. “He was a first-generation college student when he came to Pace as an undergraduate, and today we couldn’t be happier to be welcoming him back to campus in a senior leadership role.”
Laermer grew up in the Bronx and is a Pace alumnus. “As the son of immigrant parents, and a first generation college graduate, I have a very special connection to Pace and the mission of the university, Opportunitas,” Laermer said. A degree from Pace transforms lives and it certainly transformed mine. Pace has an extraordinary legacy and exciting trajectory. Alumni all over the world are doing amazing things and I am excited to work with them and engage them with Pace.”
Laermer most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer of the YMCA of Greater New York and was responsible for all philanthropic and charitable giving programs for the organization. Since joining the YMCA in 2010, Gary has more than doubled the organization’s success in raising charitable funds.
Recognized as a leader in nonprofit fundraising, Laermer joined the Board of Directors of the New York City chapter of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals in 2011 and now serves as Board President.
Laermer holds a BA in agency administration from Pace University and an MS in information management from Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL. Raised in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, he currently resides in Bergen County, NJ.
