Collaboration will market a line of Mesenchymal Stem/Stromal Cell Bioreactor Expansion Kits

Frederick, Maryland (PRWEB) September 29, 2015

PBS Biotech, Inc. and RoosterBio Inc. have announced a commercial collaboration agreement to market a range of easy to use Mesenchymal Stem/Stromal Cell Bioreactor Expansion Kits. The portfolio of kits will facilitate the challenging transition of stem cell culture to more efficient and scalable production platforms. The Start Up Kit will include RoosterBio?s hMSCs and media kits combined with PBS Biotech?s MINI bioreactor and PBS 0.5 liter single-use expansion vessel. A step by step protocol will be included to ensure scientists with little to no experience in bioreactor cell culture can effortlessly generate > 100 million hMSCs within 10 days in the compact, low shear PBS MINI Bioreactor system. Development Kits and Scale Up Kits are also offered, to simplify project-specific optimization and scale up of hMSC production.

The complimentary tools that both RoosterBio and PBS Biotech contribute are intended to address a major bottleneck in the multi-billion dollar Regenerative Medicine industry. Stem cell based technologies are progressing rapidly through the clinic, but manufacturing of cellular therapeutics, including hMSCs, is significantly limited in scale. There are few tools that enable simple and rapid development of scalable production methods of hMSCs.

These new kits are first-in-class products that provide the key elements of scalable stem cell production:

  •     Low shear, easy to use bioreactors
  •     Single-use expansion vessels (500 mL) for rapid and economical process optimization
  •     Well characterized hMSC starting materials
  •     Efficient fed-batch media systems designed for scalability
  •     Microcarriers optimized for hMSC adhesion and 3D expansion

The kit portfolio will enable the rapid development of production methods which can be quickly scaled up, bringing greater efficiencies to the field of Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine.

Brian Lee of PBS Biotech, explains ?RoosterBio?s robust, well-characterized adult hMSC starting materials and bioreactor-specific media kits have provided consistent, reliable expansion results across a range of PBS Bioreactor working volumes in our lab. We are excited to work with RoosterBio to supply stem cell researchers a stress-free source of cells with minimum start-up time and rapid development efforts.?

Jon Rowley of RoosterBio elaborates ?RoosterBio?s in house experience with the gentle mixing and ease of use of the novel PBS MINI bioreactor platform has been very positive. Innovation accelerates when the right groups work in partnership. The launch of this collaboration is an exciting step forward in RoosterBio?s focus to simplify and standardize how stem cells are purchased, expanded, and used in Regenerative Medicine.?
