Manistee, Michigan (PRWEB) September 30, 2015
In observation of National Recovery Month, which recognizes and celebrates those in recovery from addiction. Per Wickstrom, the founder of Best Drug Rehabilitation and other substance abuse treatment centers, has shared an encouraging and inspiring message with his readers in the latest blog entry on his website, http://www.perwickstrom.com.
National Recovery Month is observed every September, and highlights the positive message that recovery from addiction is possible. National Recovery Month also aims to raise awareness about substance abuse and treatment options available and to encourage activism in promoting the expansion of prevention education in schools and the improved accessibility of effective treatment programs and recovery centers across America.
Wickstrom?s Message About Recovery
?Having battled my own substance abuse issues,? Wickstrom says in his blog post, ?I have an understanding of the obstacles that face those travelling the same path that I did ? the kind of understanding that only another person who has battled addiction can have. It is no easy task. That is why the recognition and celebration of overcoming those struggles, such as we see during National Recovery Month, is so important. By giving credit where credit is due, we can help to keep the positive energy flowing in the lives of those who have made it through to the other side.?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) website, the goal of National Recovery Month is to recognize and applaud those who have overcome addiction and to encourage those who are struggling with drug or alcohol abuse by emphasizing the positive benefits of addiction recovery programs and treatment centers. Observation of Recovery Month ?reinforces the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.?
National Recovery Month is now in its 26th annual observance, having started in 1989 as ?Treatment Works! Month? to recognize the accomplishments of those working in the substance abuse treatment field. In 1998, it became known as ?National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month? as it evolved to include and honor the achievements of those individuals who are in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. Evolving once again to ?National Recovery Month? in 2011, the observation now includes all aspects of behavioral health, including addiction in all of its many forms.
?As this year?s National Recovery Month sees its last few days,? Wickstrom continued in his blog entry, ?I urge each of you to push a little more and to try a little harder. Show support for people who are in recovery. If you are in recovery, reach out to those who are starting out on that path and offer strength. Inspire those around you to expand awareness and to encourage effective prevention education, treatment programs and recovery centers.?
