SYRACUSE, N.Y. (PRWEB) June 11, 2018

ProLiteracy is pleased to announce the launch of a progressive new online Tutor Training Program that reflects the latest research, best practices, and most innovative strategies in the field. Basic literacy and English language learning (ELL) programs will have access to a comprehensive selection of training materials that can be applied to a variety of instructional settings and used online or face-to-face.

There are 36 million adults in the United States who lack basic education and literacy skills. Volunteer tutors are tremendously valuable to any adult literacy program, and are pillars of strength for adult learners who are trying to gain the skills they need to live a higher quality of life. A program’s success increases when its tutors are prepared with the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to help adult learners improve their literacy skills and quality of life.

But many literacy programs train fewer than 25 tutors a year. This means they can only offer one or two face-to-face workshops a year. Students may wait up to 6 months for a new tutor to be trained. Now, new tutors can immediately enroll in the online tutor training course and quickly prepare themselves to start working with students.

Kevin Morgan, president and CEO of ProLiteracy said, “While ProLiteracy has been developing effective adult literacy resources for over 50 years, we are constantly looking for ways to scale impact in the adult literacy space. One of the ways to scale impact is to train more volunteer tutors. Our research shows that two thirds of our programs have student waiting lists due to the shortage of trained tutors. We believe the new ProLiteracy tutor training will be an effective way to bring new tutors into the field.”
