What started as a gift from Quantum Foundation to The Children’s Healing Institute nearly two years ago to develop and implement an entrepreneurial business plan, has resulted in an initiative to expand the mission reach and secure the future of the nonprofit’s local TEACUP Preemie Program® services.
Thanks to a generous $20,000 grant from The William Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust, the Institute has raised more than twenty-five percent of its $78,000 growth capital goal, and will soon be poised to implement its earned-income strategies to expand its TEACUP Preemie Program® to markets nationwide.
Earned income from this initiative will be invested into local services for hundreds of families whose babies were born too soon. Prematurity is commonly accompanied by medical and developmental complications, financial burden, and parental stress. The TEACUP Preemie Program® works with families of preemies in the hospital and in their homes to help them cope with the challenges of preemie parenthood.
Though 1 out of 10 babies are born prematurely nationwide, few programs address the specific needs of parents caring for and parenting premature infants. Soon, the TEACUP Preemie Program® will deliver a comprehensive and turnkey program to providers to implement in dozens of communities across the country through program licensing.
Dr. Dorian Burton, Assistant Executive Director of the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust, states, “We are impressed with the unique approach and powerful outcomes of The Children’s Healing Institute’s innovative TEACUP Preemie Program®, and would like to see it expand beyond the organization’s local geography of West Palm Beach to benefit those who have need in other communities across the country. Knowing that an expansion initiative of this nature requires financial resources to help ensure its success, and that the organization has done its homework and identified steps to guide its rollout, gives us great confidence to provide funding support that will amplify the impact of TEACUP Preemie Program® to assist a growing number of families with premature infants.”
“We are excited to share the TEACUP Preemie Program® with other communities, ensuring that thousands of preemies each year have better odds to survive and thrive,” stated Dr. Sandy Munoz, CEO of The Children’s Healing Institute. “We are grateful for the investment the Quantum Foundation and William Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust have made in this initiative.”
