Quantum Medical Imaging, an imaging device manufacturer, will close its Ronkonkoma facility in November and the 83 jobs there will move to Rochester and China, according to the facility’s parent company and a state regulatory filing.

Quantum’s parent, Rochester-based Carestream Health Inc., filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice on the state Labor Department’s website last week. In February, Carestream said it was consolidating its operations to remain competitive with global companies that produce “more affordable” X-ray systems, and to be closer to growing markets. It said at the time the Ronkonkoma facility would close.

The Long Island employees will receive severance packages and employment-search resources, Carestream said. Layoffs are scheduled to begin July 29 and the plant is to close in November.

Under New York’s WARN Act, companies with at least 50 full-time employees must file a 90-day notice of a mass layoff or closing.
