Ranch seasoning sold at Walmart recalled due to potential salmonella risk

A ranch seasoning sold at Walmart stores has been recalled due to potential salmonella risk, according to authorities. 

Utah-based Blackstone Products voluntarily recalled three batches of its Parmesan Ranch seasoning on May 15, citing concerns about potential salmonella contamination. The recall is tied to a separate recall of dry milk powder manufactured by California Dairies, according to the FDA. 

The recalled batches have expiration dates of July 2027 and August 2027, and were sold exclusively by Blackstone Products and Walmart stores, according to the recall notice.

Blackstone Products and California Dairies did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The FDA notice says no illnesses linked to the ranch seasoning had been reported as of May 15. 

California Dairies recalled the milk powder on April 20, according to an FDA notice that lists other related recalls.

Earlier this month, Newsday reported several other companies also had recalled products that contained the milk power.

Utz recalled six kinds of Zapp’s potato chips; Ghirardelli Chocolate Company recalled various hot chocolate, coffee and frappe mixes; John B. Sanfilippo & Son Inc., recalled snack mixes; and Pork King Good recalled sour cream and onion pork rinds and seasoning. 

The FDA has cited salmonella concerns as the reason for the recalled milk powder, an ingredient in other food products, including the Blackstone seasoning.

The symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, stomach upset and pain, according to the FDA. The infection can sometimes cause “more severe illnesses,” an FDA notice reads, including arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
