A defense contractor was considering a move to the Calverton Enterprise Park but decided against it due to concern about environmental restrictions, the Riverhead Town supervisor, Sean Walter, tells the RiverheadLocal.com website.
ATK Propulsion and Controls, of Ronkonkoma, was interested in a possible move to a 10-acres site at EPCAL, the report says. The company is a subsidiary of Alliant Techsystems Inc., of Minneapolis, Minn.
“The firm's interest had gone as far as negotiating a price for 10 acres of land at the former Grumman site, Walter told the website.
“But then corporate leadership in the company's out-of-state headquarters pulled the plug on the deal last month, citing environmental factors that could restrict or delay development at the site.”
County and state officials were in on the potential deal, which fell through before Christmas, he said.
