Retro Fitness is opening its newest Long Island gym this summer in Hempstead Village.

The 22,000-square-foot facility on 49 N. Franklin St. in Hempstead is expected to open in early June. The environmentally friendly gym will have workout equipment powered by exercisers, special reflective windows that keep energy in, high-efficiency LED lights, and insulated floors and roof. It is hiring eight operations employees and six instructors.

The Hempstead location will offer strength equipment and cardio machines, personal training, locker rooms, a supervised children's playroom, smoothie bar, flat-screen television monitors, and fitness classes, including spin, Zumba and Insanity.

"The Hempstead area is well overdue for its own fitness center," said Russ Golan, who owns the new location with his wife Amy, in a statement.

The Golans have two other Long Island locations, in Syosset and Freeport.

Retro Fitness, founded in 2004, has more than 130 gyms in 14 states. Memberships start at $19.99 a month.
