Revised LI data show weaker job count

Revised data for the Long Island economy show a dramatically weaker private-sector job market in 2010 than the state Labor Department first reported. An expected 3,300 average increase for all of 2010 turned into a loss of 3,100 jobs for the year on revision.

Late last week, the department released revised numbers for each month in 2010. Below are some of the largest changes. The numbers reflect the difference in the total number of jobs in a given month, compared with the year before.

January
original: 9,700 decline
revised: 23,800 decline

February
original: 10,000 decline
revised: 23,700 decline

April
original: 6,700 gain
revised: 0 gain

May
original: 500 gain
revised: 4,000 loss

August
original: 11,300 gain
revised: 3,900 gain

September
original: 5,600 gain
revised: 900 gain
