A Garden City-based unit of Morgan Stanley was the sole Long Island practice named to Barron's list of top 100 financial advisers for 2014.

Roger Coleman's group, with Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in Garden City, moved up four places from the prior year to the ninth spot on the list.

Barron's said the ranking takes into account total assets overseen, revenue generated for the firm and the quality of the practice.

Coleman's group oversees more than $25 billion in assets from institutions and wealthy individuals. Clients' typical net worth is $50 million and typical account size is $25 million.

No. 1 on the list? Gregory Vaughn, also with Morgan Stanley. Vaughan's group in Menlo Park, Calif., manages assets of more than $14 billion with typical accounts of $75 million.
