SBA regional chief to speak at Action Long Island event

Action Long Island has a notable speaker scheduled for its Let's Get Down to Business, event next Thursday morning -- it's Jorge Silva-Puras, director for the Small Business Administration's Region II.
The event marks the first phase of the group's new initiative or 2012.
According to Action Long Island, the Region II office oversaw approval of more than 6,250 SBA-backed loans totaling $2.2 billion from February 2009 to July 2010. The region encompasses New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Action Long Island event is co-sponsored by Citibank, and takes place from 8 to 10 a.m. May 10 at the Crest Hollow Country club on Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Advance registration is available online. Price per person is $50 for members and $75 for nonmembers. More information is available by email.
In addition to Silva-Puras, state and local business development officials will also attend, along with university specialists.
In a notice of the event, the not-for-profit said it "believes our regional economy is on the verge of an upswing." The notice, sent out by executive director Angel Cepeda, continues, "Long Island has been leading [New York State] in economic recovery and ALI is confident our business community will continue to lead the charge."
