Sealift awarded 2 defense contracts worth $24M
Sealift Inc., an Oyster Bay-based operator of cargo ships, was awarded two contract options worth about $24 million to pre-position equipment for the U.S. Army.
A $13.2 million option under a previously awarded contract calls for cargo, including explosives, ammunition and vehicles, to be transported.
An $11.2 million option under another previously awarded contract also calls for pre-positioning explosives, ammunition, vehicles and other cargo.
Both contracts, announced by the Defense Department on Tuesday, are with the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command in Norfolk, Virginia, and work on both is expected to be completed by September 2018.
