A new dental office in Selden plans to give out an unusual benefit to the unemployed - free visits with a dentist for out-of-work Long Islanders.

The free care will be offered for a single day only, on Feb. 26, at Exceldent Dental's 805 Middle Country Rd. office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proof of unemployment is required.

"Dentists offer the unemployed new and brighter smiles for better impressions, free of charge," the company said in a news release announcing the event.

Exams, X-rays, cleanings and oral cancer screenings will be provided, as needed.

"There are a lot of people unemployed out there who end up sacrificing their dental care because of lack of funds," said Dr. Stephen Candell, chief executive of Exceldent's network of eight offices

"In providing these dental services, we are not only helping these individuals in maintaining good health but are also giving them new smiles that are sure to have a positive impression during their job interviews."

Visits will be scheduled first come first served. To participate, call to register at 631-716-1000. 631-698-1140.
