A new dental office in Selden plans to give out an unusual benefit to the unemployed - free visits with a dentist for out-of-work Long Islanders.

Free care will be offered one day only - Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - at Exceldent Dental's 805 Middle Country Rd. office. Proof of unemployment is required. Exams, X-rays, cleanings and oral cancer screenings will be provided, as needed.

"There are a lot of people unemployed out there who end up sacrificing their dental care because of lack of funds," said Dr. Stephen Candell, chief executive of Exceldent's network of eight offices. Visits will be scheduled first-come first-served. To participate, call to register at 631-716-1000.
