Session on small-business borrowing

“Let’s get ready to borrow” will be tomorrow’s theme for small businesses at a regional conference co-hosted by Suffolk County’s new Small Business Advisory Council and Stony Brook University’s Small Business Development Center.
Micro lenders, alternative lenders, credit repair specialists and other experts will advise business owners and entrepreneurs on how to get capital.
The event will be held 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Sheraton Hotel, 110 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, Smithtown.
But it's a sign of the times that the event has already drawn the maximum of 150 people allowed in the hotel's Vanderbuilt Room. Many small businesses have been desperate for capital to keep operating and difficulties in getting loans have forced some owners to close or lay off workers.
Levy's office wants to set up an evening conference in the next 30 days or so to accommodate business owners who couldn't make tomorrow's forum.
Levy, scheduled to speak at 10 a.m., created his Small Business Advisory Council last Thursday as part of his economic development agenda. The council will help set policies and standards that would give small businesses a chance to grow and remain in Suffolk.
