Sheet metal union seeks 10 apprentices
The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Local 137 of the Sheet Metal Workers union will begin taking applications Monday for 10 sign hanger and rigger apprenticeships, officials said.
Applications can be obtained at the Local 137 office, 50-02 Fifth St., Suite A, in Long Island City, Queens from 8 a.m. to noon on Mondays, excluding legal holidays. The recruitment period ends on March 6, 2017.
Applicants must present a valid driver’s license and proof of completion of high school or GED courses to obtain a form. Successful applicants will be required to pay $48 per month in union dues and a $288 initiation fee over six months.
Applicants must be 18 or older, be physically able to do the work, have reliable transportation around Long Island and New York City, and pass a math and reading test.
