Local 137 of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Monday began recruiting for 10 sign hanger/rigger apprentices, officials said.

Applications can be obtained at 50-02 5th St., Suite A, Long Island City, on Mondays between 8 a.m. and noon, excluding legal holidays. The recruitment period ends Feb. 8 and applicants must present a valid driver's license and proof of completion of high school or GED courses to obtain a form.

Apprentices are required to pay monthly union dues of $48 and an initiation fee of $288 in installments.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, be physically able to do the work, have reliable transportation on Long Island and in New York City, and pass a math and reading test.
