Long Island members of BJ’s Wholesale Club will now have extra time to stock up on goods following the company’s extension of its shopping hours.

Beginning this week, BJ’s Wholesale and BJ’s Gas locations across the Island and the nation extended their opening hours until 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and until 9 p.m. on Sundays, the Marlborough, Massachusetts-based wholesale chain announced.

Stores previously closed by 9 p.m., according to the company’s website.

Long Island has 12 BJ’s Wholesale Clubs, including in Garden City, Farmingdale and Bellport. The chain opened its newest Island location in Commack in 2022.

“This change is part of ongoing efforts to enhance convenience and better serve BJ’s members,” a BJ’s Wholesale Club spokesperson said in a statement.

BJ’s move to extend shopping hours follows a similar decision made by competitor Costco Wholesale last year.

Costco officially implemented extended shopping hours for club members with executive-tier memberships, allowing those shoppers to begin shopping at 9 a.m. The Issaquah, Washington-based chain also extended shopping hours on Saturdays, closing at 7 p.m. for all members.

Doug Drotman, a public relations professional and president of Drotman Communications in Commack, said BJ’s decision to expand its hours follows a broader trend of brick-and-mortar retailers trying to compete for consumer dollars.

“I certainly would think Costco and BJ’s, and all retailers are trying to meet their customers where they are,” Drotman said. “As we have more opportunities to buy products online, retailers need to work harder to accommodate the needs of their customers.”

Net sales for BJ’s Wholesale Club reached $20.96 billion in 2025, with annual profits reaching more than $578 million, according to company financials.
