Six Long Island companies were named to the second annual Fast 50 -- a list of the fastest growing companies in the New York metropolitan area from publication Crain's New York Business.

To compile the list -- the publication's second -- Crain took submissions and solicited information from private and public companies in the New York metro area — including Westchester and Long Island — and ranked them by revenue growth from 2009 to 2012.

The local companies were:

— Bedgear in Farmingdale, ranked No. 8, makes specialized bedding that controls moisture and regulates heat. The business, which employs 33 on Long Island, had revenues of  $25.2 million in 2012, making its three-year growth 942 percent.

— Intelligent Product Solutions in Ronkonkoma, ranked No. 21, is a product development company that offers services from starting designs to end production. The company, which employs 59, saw sales of $13 million in 2012 — which amounts to 403 percent growth over the last three years.

— Global Warranty Group, ranked No. 28, administers product warranties in its 14-person St. James office. The company's 2012 sales, at $28.1 million, represented a 278 percent growth over three years.

— BabyGanics, ranked No. 30, makes and sells organic baby products. It employs 24 people in its Hicksville office. The company's revenue in 2012 was $18.5 million, a three year growth of 270 percent.

— CPI Aerostructures, ranked No. 46, is a publicly traded firm based in Edgewood with a stock market value of around $90 million as of market close Tuesday. The defense contractor specializes in plane parts, and employs 270 people. The company's 2012 revenue, at $89.3 million, amounts to a 174 percent growth.

— PM Pediatrics, ranked No. 47, offers after-hours care for children across eight locations in Long Island, New York City, Westchester and New Jersey. The company, based in Lake Success, saw revenues of $14 million in 2012, a 170 percent increase over the last three years. It employs 181 people.
