A California-based food and beverage manufacturer has recalled more than a dozen beverages across 25 states, including New York, after a supplier warned of salmonella risk.
SKS Copack, headquartered in Cerritos, California, recalled 18 products in late May, including Royal Gold French Vanilla Cappuccino powder and Angel Caramel Latte powder, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
SKS Copack pulled affected products off shelves and is urging consumers who have purchased recalled goods to return them for a full refund.
The recalled specialty beverages may be contaminated with salmonella, a bacteria that can cause intestinal infections, frequently through food or water. An infection can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, according to the FDA. Young children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems are especially at risk.
Recalled products were distributed through cafes, restaurants and direct delivery, the FDA said.
The recall was prompted after California Dairies Inc., one of SKS Copack's suppliers, found salmonella in low heat nonfat dry milk powder during routine product testing, according to the FDA.
No illnesses had been reported as of May 23, according to the FDA.
The Nassau County Department of Health confirmed that it has not identified any salmonella cases linked to the recall and is "notifying all permitted food service establishments" in the county of the recall, a spokesperson said.
Suffolk County did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
