How does your employer stack up against others when it comes to snow closings and compensation?

To find out, you can check out results of a web survey conducted by Ted Turnasella, principal of West Islip-based Comp-unications.

He’s gotten 50 responses from human resources professionals – about half on Long Island, he estimates – out of some 2500 invited to respond.

Among the findings:
--55.8 percent said they pay full-time employees – without charging them with a vacation or personal day – if the company closes due to bad weather;
--23 percent do not pay full-timers for snow closings, but do allow them to  use a vacation or personal day.

Learn more here about practices with part-timers, exempt vs. non-exempt workers, how employers notify workers of a snow closing.

And here is an earlier story about snow days versus vacation days, with a poll you can vote on.
