Social worker gets 2011 Frankel award

Joann Piche of Speonk has been awarded the 2011 Hy Frankel Award in Law and Social Justice from Stony Brook University’s Graduate School of Social Welfare based on her dedication to the homeless population on Long Island’s East End.
Piche is a clinical social worker at Family Counseling Services in Westhampton Beach and is vice chair of the board of directors at Peconic Community Council, which runs Maureen’s Haven Homeless Outreach. She also has helped organize and educate youth volunteers for Maureen’s Haven and has a graduate degree in social work from Stony Brook University.
