Southampton Hospital expects to launch a $200 million fundraising campaign to help pay for the hospital’s planned move to Stony Brook University’s Southampton campus.

The campaign will begin after Southampton Hospital clears its final state regulatory hurdles and officially merges with Stony Brook University Hospital.

Robert Chaloner, president and chief executive officer at Southampton Hospital, said he was optimistic the approvals would come by Jan. 1.

“Once the deal closes, we will actively start fundraising, and we’re fortunate that because of the community we serve, we think we can get to our goal,” Chaloner said.

Chaloner said the goal is to open at the new location in five years.

The new facility would take up 14 acres of the 88-acre campus, he said.

“We looked at renovating this, but to renovate this property while we were also operating as a hospital is very difficult,” Chaloner said.

Southampton Hospital is also waiting for final approval from the Suffolk County Economic Development Corp. on a $14 million tax-exempt bond to help pay for its planned $23.2 million cancer center in Southampton.

The hospital has also pitched an emergency and urgent care facility closer to East Hampton for that town’s residents.

Chaloner presented East Hampton Town Board members with the idea in October.

He said the satellite facility would cost $35 million to $45 million to build.
