Southwest to offer Atlanta flights from MacArthur

Southwest Airlines, the major carrier at Islip's MacArthur Airport, will begin flying to Atlanta in February.

With the new destination on its regional schedules, Southwest will sell a few Islip-Atlanta trips each day, most involving a plane change in Baltimore, beginning Feb. 12. The new air service was announced Monday.

The Dallas-based carrier's online reservation system shows that three flights from MacArthur will get passengers to Atlanta that first day, departing at 6:35 a.m., 12:20 p.m. and 5:05 p.m. Generally the total trip time is 4-5 hours, including the Baltimore plane change.

Return trips from Atlanta to Islip show one daily, 3-hour flight with no plane change -- though there's still a stop at Baltimore/Washington International Airport. Two more return flights require a BWI change.
