Digmi

Long Island Ducks baseball player Ray Navarrete's clothing company, Digmi, got a plug last week at the sports website fanhouse.com.

The Ducks MVP, who lists a corporate address in Melville, mostly sells his hats and shirts online at digmination.com. He founded the clothing company in 1994.

Navarrete explains the origin of his company's name, telling fanhouse.com it comes from "when he was with the Altoona Curve, a farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Navarrete and a few of his teammates were such sharp and snappy dressers that their manager nicknamed them "The Dig Me Tribe."

Newsday profiled the 32-year-old minor-leaguer in May, in a story titled "Ducks star Navarrete knows he's running out of time." The story describes how a series of ill-timed injuries kept him from breaking through to the major leagues — and how he hasn't yet given up that dream.

The article went on to say: "When the time comes for life after baseball, Navarrete — who owns a clothing company called Digmi — is prepared for the business world. 'I hope to play for quite some time,' Navarrete said. 'But I'm hoping my clothing company will grow and allow me to put my hands into some other things.' "
