New York State has extended to April 7 the deadline for applying to take a civil service test to become a mental health therapy aide in state psychiatric facilities, officials said Thursday.

Jessica Riley, a spokeswoman for the state Office of Mental Health, said the deadline had been extended “to give New Yorkers ample time to apply for the exam,” which will be administered on May 13.

The state plans to hire up to 180 aides on Long Island over the next two years.
