Stock of Woodbury company soars after Schumer backs product

Intellicheck Mobilisa's stock rose by 75 percent Monday after U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said he had recommended its Defense ID scanner to the Department of Homeland Security.

The stock closed at $1.20 Friday; then after Schumer publicly disclosed his recommendation Monday, the share price rose sharply, closing at $2.10.

Schumer said $50 million in federal funding exists for a pilot program to incorporate a new scanning device at airports.

Schumer has sent a letter to Janet Napolitano, the Homeland Security Secretary, "urging the use of these funds to implement technology such as the Defense ID System, which can crosscheck passengers with terror watch lists, weed out fake IDs, and track visa overstays."

Intellicheck Mobilisa produces the technology in Woodbury, and the hardware — the scanning guns — are made in Holtsville, but its corporate headquarters are in Port Townsend, Wash.
