Stony Brook students win a Blackberry app competition

Three Stony Brook University students won first place in a North American competition sponsored by Islandia-based CA to develop a BlackBerry application.

Peter Chang, Raksik Kim and Maggie Wu have won $5,000, a BlackBerry and a trip to CA’s conference in Las Vegas next week.

University students were challenged to develop an application for the BlackBerry 9530 that would work with a CA product. Organizers said the winning team’s application presented a customized dashboard very similar to what users of the CA program were accustomed to seeing.

Ajei Gopal, executive vice president of CA products and technology group said, “We were impressed with the quality and creativity of all the entries we received for the CA Smartphone Challenge and congratulate the winning teams on their success.”

At the conference, the team will be able to demonstrate their application at an exhibition booth.

Coming in second was a team from University of South Florida and a Carnegie Mellon University student took third place.
