The Jericho Water District plans to install solar energy panels at its pumping stations and offices to save on electricity costs, the district said.

It would sell any excess power to the Long Island Power Authority.

New York Institute of Technology engineering students and faculty will design, build and monitor the project, Nada Marie Anid, the school’s engineering school dean, said in a news release. NYIT has campuses in Old Westbury and Manhattan.

The news release did not say how much the project would cost, and did not give a schedule for completion.
