Suffolk County provides sales tax relief for recovering businesses
Suffolk County announced Tuesday it will provide sales tax relief to small businesses which were hurt by superstorm Sandy two weeks ago.
Businesses with less than 25 full-time employees will be exempt from sales taxes on up to $100,000 worth of building materials and equipment purchased for the purpose of rebuilding after Sandy.
“Making sure our companies operate again efficiently is a main priority,” said Anthony Manetta, the executive director of the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency. “We have streamlined the IDA process to get our companies to start rebuilding quickly and more cost effectively.”
The IDA will also help businesses that use the sales tax exemption by connecting them with local town officials who may offer more aid.
Nassau County announced a similar exemption last Monday for its small businesses, allowing businesses with less than 100 full-time employees to receive sales tax exemption on up to $99,000 worth of rebuilding materials.
Businesses can call 631-853-4802 or email info@suffolkida.org with questions.
